As I read the Rolling Stone article I, too...Indeed! As I read the Rolling Stone article I, too, formed a similar conclusion. Obama's bubble of finding some way of extracting the troops while declaring some sort of success was completely blown away by the candor of Gen. McChrystal's belief that only through a program such as COIN could any type of measured success be realized. With a time table that would stretch out for at least a decade the "Quick-Fix" that the Obama Administration was hoping to foist upon the global community and the American public has now been made to be the fraud that it really is. Perhaps the best thing that may come out of this matter is a more realistic recognition by Obama that Afghanistan poses a dilemna that the American people are just not going to put up with. It is time for Obama and his cohorts to "eat cake and go home." The Bush-ian concept of a war on terror is one that never should have involved military force. The acts of 9/11 were criminal acts and must be handled in an appropriate fashion. Using troops to oppress entire countries and killing thousands of innocent victims will never make right the loss of life on that fated September day. It is time for Obama to restore the notion of America as being a nation that cares about people not one that simply uses people to serve political, economic, or militaristic ambitions. This is what was seen in his speech in Egypt. Yet actions speak louder than words. It is time to put those words into action and Afghanistan may be the last opportunity for America to restore its dignity within the global community.Jerry Copelandnoreply@blogger.com
